Lima man arrested for murder of 18-month-old

LIMA — The Lima Police Department has arrested Gabriel W. Salyers, 31, in connection with the death of an 18-month-old boy.

On Sunday, officers responded to 826 Oak St. for an unresponsive toddler, who was later transported to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center due to several significant injuries. He was later transferred to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Toledo in critical condition. He died in the early morning Tuesday.

The Lima Police Department has confirmed the identity of the toddler as Jaxxon Sullivan. According to Sullivan’s obituary, his time of death Tuesday was 4:56 a.m.

The investigation led detectives to arrest Salyers, the live-in boyfriend of Sullivan’s mother, and charged him with murder.

Lt. Andrew Green said detectives are interviewing witnesses and the suspect to determine the details of the relationship between Salyers and Sullivan’s mother as well as to figure out what specification to attach to the murder charge.

Salyers will be arraigned in Lima Municipal Court at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
