Dayton man sentenced for attempted robbery of Shawnee pharmacy

LIMA — A 22-year-old Dayton man who attempted — unsuccessfully — to rob a Shawnee pharmacy of prescription painkillers last year pleaded guilty and was sentenced Thursday in Allen County Common Pleas Court.

Jamie Williams appeared before Judge Jeffrey Reed for a change of plea hearing. As part of a negotiated deal with prosecutors, Williams agreed to plead guilty to a second-degree felony charge of robbery. He had previously been indicted by a grand jury on a charge of aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony.

In exchange for his plea, prosecutors agreed to a stipulated three-year prison sentence. Reed imposed the recommended sentence, but ordered it to be served consecutively to a federal 51-month sentence Williams is serving for a pair of similar robberies in the Dayton area.

According to prosecutors, Williams walked into the CVS Pharmacy at 2620 Breese Road in Shawnee on June 1, 2017, and handed a note to the pharmacist on duty. The note, according to statements made in court Thursday, read: “This is an armed robbery. Give me all your Oxycodone.”

Williams reportedly was armed at the time but did not brandish the weapon or physically threaten the employee. According to his attorney, Greg Donohue, Williams simply “walked away” when the clerk did not cooperate with his request.

Williams told Reed he was “feeding a habit” as well as selling oxycodone pain medications.
