Last of Walgreens robbery quartet sentenced

LIMA — Allen County Common Pleas Court Judge David Cheney spared an Indianapolis woman prison time when she was sentenced Friday for her limited role in the 2017 armed robbery of a Lima pharmacy.

Cheney said Abigail Lee deserved “significant credit” for her willingness to testify at trial against her co-defendants — three teenagers from Indiana who robbed the Walgreens pharmacy at the corner of Cable and Allentown roads in April of last year.

Lee previously had accepted a deal that called for her to plead guilty to a third-degree felony charge of obstructing justice in exchange for her testimony at trial. Cheney on Friday sentenced Lee to three years of probation and 90 days in the Allen County jail, with credit for 47 days served.

She was the fourth and final Indiana resident to be sentenced in connection with the robbery.

The alleged trigger-man in the pharmacy robbery, 18-year-old Senneca Rivers, was sentenced to five years in prison, with a mandatory additional three-year sentence for carrying a gun during the execution of the crime. Prosecutors had alleged that Rivers jumped over a counter in the pharmacy area of the store, pointed a gun at the pharmacist on duty and demanded he remove oxycodone from the safe.

Treyvon Manning, 19, was sentenced to three years in prison as a participant in the armed robbery incident and Quintez Hawkins, 19, was sentenced last month to 10 years in prison.

During Friday’s sentencing, Lee told Cheney she was “extremely sorry” for her actions. Her attorney, Patrick Mulligan, said the young woman was “naïve to be with this particular group of people” and was suffering from “some mental health issues for which her medication was not working” when she agreed to accompany the three males to Lima on that April night.
