LIMA — Allen County Sheriff Matt Treglia has named Tom Ahl as the 2018 recipient of the Sheriff’s Civilian Commendation. Ahl was selected by the department’s awards committee from a group of civilians to be recognized this year based on his “years of community service that has included an unwavering commitment to aiding local law enforcement,” Tregila said in a prepared statement.
“Tom has aided our office in so many ways over the past few decades it would be impossible to list them all. Just a few examples include providing emergency snow vehicles every winter free of charge, at a time when all officers were still equipped with Crown Victorias; personally delivering rental cars after hours, to scenes where a family or individual travelers had become stranded for various reasons (on more than one occasion); and finally, Tom and his family have gladly supported our DARE program and pretty much any charitable venture we have ever requested assistance with,” Tregila said.
Ahl was given a Civilian Commendation certificate, a Sheriff’s Association Community Service pin and a custom “Bronzed Sock” plaque that reads, “Thank you for Knocking our socks off for decades.”
“We wish we had the time and means this year to recognize every business and individual for their support, but unfortunately we must limit it to a few nominees per year,” the sheriff said. “Our awards committee looks forward to nominating and recognizing deserving employees and civilians as we move forward.”
