Slick roads to blame for accident that killed Sidney 18-year-old

SHELBY COUNTY —The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a two-vehicle accident Saturday morning in the 10,000 block of state Route 29 that killed an 18-year-old Sidney woman.

According to a news release, a red 2000 Pontiac Grand Am was southbound on state Route 29, south of Ft. Loramie Swanders Road. The driver, Kacey D. Swiger, 18, of Sidney, lost control, slid broadside, crossed the center line and went into the path of a northbound white 2011 full-sized Ford van.

The driver of the van, Davares Pruitt, of Dayton, was unable to avoid the crash, striking the passenger side of the Grand Am, causing severe damage.

Swiger was pronounced dead at the scene by the Shelby County Coroner’s office. Pruitt was transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital in Sidney.

Weather conditions are believed to be a factor in the crash. The accident remains under investigation.
