Amish family injured in Van Wert County crash Sunday

WILLSHIRE — An Amish family was injured Sunday evening when their horse-drawn buggy was struck by a van operated by a Wapakoneta man in western Van Wert County.

According to a spokesman for the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office, a buggy driven by Marvin Schwartz, 28, of Decatur, Indiana, was traveling on state Route 49, north of state Route 81, at approximately 7:24 p.m. Sunday when it was struck by a vehicle driven by John Havill, 39, of Wapakoneta.

Schwartz, his wife, Elizabeth, and three young children were all transported to Van Wert County Hospital with what were described by officials as non-life threatening injuries. Havill was treated at the scene and did not require hospitalization.

The incident is still under investigation by the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office.
