Middle Point woman survives murder/suicide attempt

LIMA — The investigation by Lima Police into a recent double stabbing has determined the incident was an attempted murder/suicide.

Police were called to 114 N. Cole St. at 9:20 a.m. Nov. 6.

They found Amber Myers, 34, of Middle Point, and Austin Hill Sr., 47, on the front porch suffering from stab wounds.

Myers was admitted to St. Rita’s Medical Center, and Hill died.

According to a news release, a neighbor upstairs in the two-family divided house had heard Myers begging Hill to get off her and not to do anything in front of their 2-year-old child.

The neighbor recognized that she needed help, rushed downstairs and was able to get the door open to that part of the residence. When she did, Hill and Myers were near the front door, and Hill appeared to be attacking Myers. The neighbor pulled Hill outside. He was holding a knife with one hand and Myers with the other, so when he was pulled outside, Myers was pulled out also.

It was discovered that Hill had been group texting several friends and family members early that morning and appeared to be suicidal. A note was found in the apartment, which was confirmed to have been written by Hill, that suggested a murder/suicide plan.

Myers arrived at the apartment around 8:15 a.m. that day to get some of her belongings, and the attack occurred within the hour. The news release did not explain the nature of their relationship.

Myers’ injuries were consistent with being attacked by Hill, which included defensive wounds from the knife. An autopsy confirmed that Hill’s stab wounds were consistent with being self-inflicted.

It was found Hill attacked Myers with the knife and then stabbed himself multiple times as Myers attempted to flee. Hill attacked her a second time as she attempted to exit the locked apartment, which is when the neighbor interrupted the attack.
