LIMA — The Allen County Board of Elections upheld the results of the Shawnee Township Trustee election after a recount Thursday.
The original results had newcomer Clark Spieles declared the winner, with 1,851 votes. Incumbent Dave Belton won the other open seat with 1,842 votes. Fellow incumbent Russell Holly was defeated, only earning 1,820 votes.
After a hand recount, which included absentee ballots, Spieles was still declared the winner, with 1,865 total votes. Belton retained the other open seat with 1,854 votes, while Holly earned 1,837 seats.
The Ohio Revised Code requires a recount to be ordered if the difference between the declared winner and the defeated nominee is less than half a percent of the total number of votes cast.
