Arnold C. Dienstberger Foundation gives $320,000 to Delphos charites

DELPHOS — It all began back in 1963 with the purchase of a nursing home, which was later turned into Delphos Memorial Home and again to the Sarah Jane Geriatric Center.

The center was sold in 1998, and that year it was decided to use the investments from the sale to help fund nonprofit 501(c)(3) charities in Delphos. In 1998, the Arnold C. Dienstberger Foundation gave away $62,800.

On Tuesday the foundation donated $320,000 to 30 charities in Delphos. This year’s donation is the highest amount that they have ever awarded. Since 1998, the charity has awarded $5,219,925.

Rick Miller, the past president of the foundation, said that he finds pleasure in giving back to the community because of the impact that it makes.

“With everything that is going on today, it’s good to see how many people’s lives are affected by people who have the best interest of the town at heart — young and old,” he said. “These people can see that they are not the only ones in town and people can see that there are other people who do things in this small town of 7,000 people.”

Lindsay Nixon, President of the Delphos Optimist Club, was one 30 recipients that night and was awarded $5,000 for her organization. She said that the money will help continue to carry on events. One of her organizations’s new project proposals was to have an event for kids 12 and under.
