High water causes problems in region

LIMA — Saturday’s deluge flooded areas of the region.

Elida Road was flooded and blocked off by police officers for a time Saturday evening.

Authorities wanted to make sure no vehicles became stranded.

Unfortunately, one of the most common spots for flooding, the Elm Street railroad underpass, had high water and at least one vehicle became stranded when it couldn’t make it all the way through.

There were reports of flooding all around the region.

In Putnam County, the Sheriff’s Office put out a statement that with all of the high water, the county garage and the Township trustees ran out of high-water signs.

As always, if you see water across the road, do not drive through the water, go around and find an alternative route. Remember, “Turn around, don’t drown.”
