Jon Husted stops in Lima

LIMA —With less than three weeks to go until the Lima mayoral election, one of the candidates received some help from a man who would like to be Ohio’s next governor.

Republican Jon Husted, Ohio secretary of state, stopped by the election headquarters of Keith Cheney on Saturday to meet volunteers and to offer Cheney his support.

“I’ve known Keith for a long time. He has both private-sector experience and public-sector experience and he knows what it takes to create jobs and create hope and opportunity in people’s lives and I think that every once in a while, a community needs to have a change. They have to have new leadership, new vision, new energy and I think Keith represents that and I want to be here to help him,” Husted said.

“What we need are leaders who are serious about figuring out how to real people in their daily lives to make sure your community is a place where businesses want to locate, they want to grow, they want to invest. They know when they go to the mayor’s office, that the mayor that sits in there is interested in trying to create jobs and grow the community,” he added.

“Obviously he’s brought in a crew to go door to door for us, all volunteers and no paid staff that’s going door to door today and it excites me that Jon Husted believes in Keith Cheney enough to be the next mayor of Lima, Ohio, that he himself is actually going to come and go door to door,” Cheney said.

Saturday’s focus was on Lima’s west side.

“We virtually have been in every part of Lima throughout this campaign with the exception of a couple of minor geographical areas that we’ll be hitting here in the next 14 days. By the end of the campaign, when we hit election day we will have virtually touched every single house in Lima,” Cheney said.

Husted has aspirations on the gubernatorial race that already features numerous challengers in the primary next year.

“I understand the different lives that people lead and live and I understand what it takes to help make sure they have access to a quality education, make sure we create good jobs so that they can raise a family and I have the ideas and the energy to provide the next generation of leadership for this state,” Husted said.
