LIMA — Four out of the seven Lima City Council members are hoping to see a new direction in city administration.
During a press conference Thursday, 2nd Ward Councilman Sam McLean, 3rd Ward Councilman Jesse Lowe II, 4th Ward Councilor Rebecca Kreher and 6th Ward Councilman Derry Glenn all announced their public endorsement of Keith Cheney in the Lima mayoral race, citing concerns with the direction the city has gone under incumbent Mayor David Berger.
“We stand together today for one common goal, and that goal is to make Lima move forward,” McLean said. “I’ve been on council for 10 years, and I’ve got two more left, and I can’t say we’re moving forward. Look at the records. Look at the details and see where we’re at. We’re here to support a change in Lima for the better.”
“We need an individual with new eyes and new ideas who’s willing to listen to their council and who’s willing to listen to the voters and the people of the city of Lima and to give them what they ask for,” Lowe said.
“People in my ward still say to me, ‘Rebecca, I’ve voted for the mayor many times before, but we need change, which is why we supported you two years ago and why we’ll be supporting Keith Cheney today,” Kreher said.
“We need new leadership in the great city of Lima,” Glenn said. “Our city needs to move in the right direction with new leadership, with someone that cares about everyone.”
Cheney welcomed the endorsements, citing them as evidence of the need for a change in direction for the city.
“To have the majority of the elected ward councilors endorse me today speaks volumes of this campaign and their trust,” Cheney said. “I cherish their love for this city and for their endorsement today.”
