Salvation Army getting jump on winter

LIMA — The local Salvation Army is preparing for the upcoming winter season with the announcement of several upcoming activities.

Donations of new and gently used coats are being accepted at 614 E. Market St. and will be distributed to those in need from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 11 and Oct. 12 and from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 6 p.m. Oct. 13. Persons wishing to receive coats must bring proof of household members — Social Security cards and birth certificates — as well as proof of income and expenses.

Christmas assistance applications will also be taken during those times. Persons who need help in purchasing Christmas toys or food may come in an apply for one of both of the services. Salvation Army officials said it is important to apply on those dates in order to meet deadlines. Applications after those dates are not guaranteed of assistance through the toy program.
