Salvation Army accepting applications for coat distribution, Christmas assistance program

LIMA — The Lima Salvation Army is preparing for the Christmas season with its “coats for families” distribution and Christmas assistance program.

The coats for families distribution will take place from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 11 and 12 at the Salvation Army, located at 614 E. Market St. It will also be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 6 p.m. Oct. 13. Families are asked to bring documentation for each family member, such as Social Security cards and birth certificates, as well as proof of income and expenses. Donations of gently used coats will also be accepted at the Salvation Army.

Christmas assistance applications for toys and food are also being accepted through Oct. 13. Applicants who file after this date are not guaranteed assistance through the program. Families are able to apply for the Christmas assistance program and the coat distribution at the same time.
