Heritage Elementary students sending condolence cards

LIMA — Pupils in Miriam Downing’s class at Heritage Elementary School are sending condolence cards to law enforcement and fire departments that have lost members.

The students have sent four cards to date, and will be sending another card to an officer from Connecticut who lost his K-9 earlier this month.

Students post arrows on a map that is posted outside their room to designate officers and firefighters who have been lost. Any cards they receive back are posted as well.

The project is a way for students to give back, as well as helping them practice their reading and writing skills. The map provides a lesson in geography.
