BBB reports telephone scam involving sheriff’s dept.

LIMA — The Better Business Bureau is warning area residents of a telephone scam. Callers are saying they are from the Allen County Sheriff’s Office and are seeking money for back taxes or unpaid court fines, said BBB spokesperson Terri Haver.

The phone numbers showing on caller IDs are a local 419 number of the sheriff’s office number.

“Do not trust your caller ID. If you receive a call from a person claiming to be from the Allen County Sheriff Office, notify the BBB immediately at 419-223-7010,” said Haver.
