Man invades Delphos home early Thursday

DELPHOS — The Delphos Police Department is investigating a home invasion that took place early Thursday.

At 2:53 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Leonard Avenue in reference to a burglary. Upon arrival, officers discovered the residents of the home had chased a male suspect out of the house. Police believe he gained access through an unlocked door.

The homeowners were awakened by screams by a girl in another room. When the homeowners went to check on the girl, the suspect ran out of the room and out the front entrance. The residents chased the suspect briefly but then lost him in the darkness.

Recounting the incident on Facebook, resident Missy McClurg wrote about “(waking) up to a nightmare” of hearing screaming from the other room.

“Someone got into her room, shut her door, put a hand over her mouth and told her ‘shhh,’” McClurg wrote. “Thank God she screamed for us.”

McClurg complimented the police and sheriff’s officers that responded, saying they were “wonderful.”

An Allen County Sheriff K-9 unit was dispatched to conduct a search for the suspect. After tracking the suspect for several yards, the K-9 was ultimately unable to positively pinpoint a location, according to the Delphos Police Department. The suspect is described as having short, dark hair with patches of facial hair. He was wearing a hooded sweatshirt.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact the Delphos Police Department at 419-692-4015.
