Lima house fire causes more than $12K in damage

LIMA — A fire in a Lima home Monday did not result in any injuries, according to the Lima Fire Department.

At 3:54 p.m., firefighters were alerted of smoke emanating from 220 McPheron Ave, a duplex. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the fire, which was concentrated in the living room, had put itself out from lack of oxygen. The fire caused heat damage to the living room and two adjacent rooms, as well as smoke damage on the first and second floors. The other half of the duplex, 222 McPheron Ave., did not suffer any damage from the fire.

The residents were not in the home at the time of the fire. Firefighters remained at the scene for almost an hour, according to Lima Fire Department Capt. Jeff Thompson.

The cause of the fire remained undetermined late Monday after an initial examination of the scene by fire investigator Toby Jenkins. Thompson estimated the damage to be between $12,000 and $15,000.
