Wal-Mart Foundation donates $25,000 to West Ohio Food Bank

LIMA — The West Ohio Food Bank received a grant of $25,000 from the Wal-Mart Foundation to purchase pallet blankets and scales for its partner agencies.

The pallet blankets will be used by partner agencies to safely transport food from the West Ohio Food Bank to local pantries. There will be one scale distributed to a central location within each county the organization serves, capturing the poundage of food collected by partner agencies. This is meant to provide a “true picture of the need being met within these counties,” a press release stated.

Thermometers were purchased with a grant from the Midwest Electric Company for use in the partner agencies’ refrigerators and storage areas. Each of these items will ensure the safe food handling, storing, transporting and capturing of poundage, continuing to ensure that the food bank stays within compliance of the American Institute of Baking, Feeding America and other federal, state and local agencies that oversee food banks.
