VAN WERT — The Van Wert post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol was investigating a minor injury crash that occurred on U.S. Route 224, just east of state Route 49 in Van Wert County, closing the road for nearly seven hours.
Shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday, a 2015 International operated by 21-year-old Tyler Amborski, of Toledo, was entering U.S. 224 from a private drive when he failed to yield to the right-of-way, police officials said. Amborski’s vehicle side-swiped a 1994 Peterbilt driven by 70-year-old Gerald Lake, of Hamilton.
The collision caused Lake to drive off the right side of the road and into a ditch, where his vehicle overturned and slid across both lanes until it came to a rest on its top. Amborksi’s vehicle came to a rest in the middle of the road.
Both drivers declined treatment for minor injuries at the scene of the accident. The Amborksi vehicle had four occupants, but no one was reported injured. U.S. 224 was closed for about seven hours for recovery and clean-up, but it has since reopened.
Seat belts were in use at the time of the crash, and alcohol was not believed to be a factor.
