Lima man has court hearing scheduled in Middle Point shooting

VAN WERT — A 19-year-old man charged with shooting a man in Middle Point this week has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Thursday.

Blake R. Kimmet, of Lima, is charged with one count of felonious assault, a second-degree felony. He is accused of shooting 18-year-old Lee Clark, of Van Wert, on Tuesday night.

Kimmet is being held in the Van Wert County jail.

Clark was shot once and taken to the Van Wert County Hospital to be treated for a non-life threatening wound. His condition was unavailable Friday. A hospital official said they were not releasing any information.

The Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at 9:01 p.m. Tuesday about a drive-by shooting across from the ball diamonds. Deputies arrived and found Clark across the street from the Middle Point Park suffering from a gunshot wound.

Deputies interviewed people at the scene and learned the incident was not a drive-by shooting. The shooting occurred out of a confrontation between Kimmet and Clark, officials said.

Shortly after deputies learned Kimmet’s name as a possible suspect, he voluntarily came into the sheriff’s office to meet detectives. After the interview, Kimmet was arrested, officials said.
