Crossroads fires director amid criminal investigation

LIMA — The executive director of Crossroads Crisis Center was fired this week, and there is an ongoing criminal investigation involving the center, a board member said.

Director Emily Wrencher was terminated effective Tuesday. She had been on paid administrative leave since April 7 following allegations of potential policy violations, board member Andre McConnahea said.

McConnahea said board members cannot comment further due to the pending criminal investigation being conducted by the Lima Police Department’s detective bureau.

McConnahea said the shelter will continue to run effectively. He said everyone who supports Crossroads and those who rely on Crossroads should know the employees and the board of directors remain fully committed to the mission of protecting people who need it the most.

Earlier this month, police began investigating a fraud allegation against a woman at the center whose name was redacted from the report. The alleged fraud took place at the center between Jan. 1, 2015, and April 6, 2017, according to police records.

Crossroads is a nonprofit agency focused on survivors of domestic violence and their children. The center includes an emergency shelter and crisis hot line, among other services.
