LIMA — An old face is working with the Allen County Sheriff’s Office.
Former Sheriff Dan Beck has returned as a special deputy. Beck is considering working a private sector job where it would be beneficial to have a special deputy commission, Sheriff Matt Treglia said Thursday.
Beck does not want to work as a full-time paid deputy, Treglia said.
Most special deputy positions are not paid but some jobs, such as security, can be paid through a private company where the special deputy works. Taxpayers do not pay anything when a special deputy works for a private company, Treglia said.
Beck also has offered to lend Treglia advice from his 16 years as sheriff and help out if needed, but Beck will not serve in any administrative capacity at the sheriff’s office, Treglia said.
The sheriff’s office has about 125 special deputies who work in the private sector in different capacities.
The sheriff’s office has a long-standing rule that special deputies who retire in good standing are granted a special deputy commission upon their request.
“Dan has continued to be committed to the citizens of Allen County nearly 10 years after leaving office, and we look forward to seeing him around from time to time,” Treglia said.
