Delphos man drives into canal; charged with OVI

DELPHOS — A Delphos man was arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence after an accident at 12:03 a.m. Tuesday.

According to a report from the Delphos Police Department, officers responded to Stadium Park, 1101 N. Jefferson St., after receiving a call concerning a pickup truck that had driven into the Miami-Erie Canal. Officers arriving the scene found that Jake Stallkamp, 18, of Delphos, had climbed out of the vehicle, which had come to a rest on the driver’s side in the canal. Witnesses of the accident said Stallkamp had been driving recklessly.

During the investigation, officers said they found probable cause to arrest Stallkamp for OVI and reckless operation.

Stallkamp will face the charges in Van Wert Municipal Court. He was not injured in the accident.
