Apollo seeking people for 2 key positions

LIMA — The Apollo Career Center is searching for people to fill two key positions and expects to have another in the near future.

Treasurer Greg Bukowski has submitted his retirement letter, effective July 31, and Director of Adult Education Rick Turner was hired by Vantage Career Center in Van Wert as its new superintendent.

Bukowski has been treasurer at Apollo for more than 30 years, and Turner has been at the career center for 32 years, the last 11 as its adult education director.

“It will be very hard to replace people of this caliber,” said Apollo board President Todd Hager. “It is tough to fill these positions but it has to be done. Greg knows the ins and outs of accounting at a career center and Rick has been here for as long as I have been on the board as our adult director.”

Hager said the first round of interviews has been completed and information was sent out to candidates who will be interviewed a second time. A total of 22 people applied for the adult education director position by Monday’s application deadline. Superintendent Judy Wells officially hired the new adult education director, and she has asked for the board to help locate a suitable replacement.

“We are hoping we can have someone in here for the treasurer position within a month,” Hager said. “That way, they can give the school they are leaving notice and possibly work with Greg for a while.”

Turner officially takes his new position Aug. 1.

Hager said the center will potentially face another resignation in the near future as superintendent Judy Wells has expressed interest in retiring.

“We are expecting it,” Hager said. “She [Wells] has said she would like to [retire]. We expect it withing the next year to year and a half.”

Hager said they are communicating that to the current treasurer candidates.

“Its one of the things we are asking the candidates for treasurer about,” Hager said. “They will be the senior administrator at the school in about a year and a half. We need to know how they feel about that.”

A list of candidates for either position was unable to be obtained late Wednesday.
