2017 homestead exemption application information for Putnam County

OTTAWA — The deadline to file homestead exemption applications for the 2017 tax year is on or before Dec. 31.

For those who did not file in 2016 and were eligible, contact Robert Benroth, the county auditor at 419-523-6686. To be eligible for a homestead exemption, a resident must be 65 or older, or be permanently or totally disabled. They also must own and occupy a house and have a gross income less than $31,800 with the spouse included.

Those qualifying will receive a reduction in property tax. There also is a similar program for veterans who are totally disabled.

Those applying also may stop by the auditor’s office at the courthouse on the second floor from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Applications also are available online at www.co.putnam.oh.us.
