Online retail giant Amazon will create more than 100,000 new positions by the middle of 2018.
The company, which already employs 180,000 employees, announced it plans to create an additional 100,000 full-time jobs with benefits in the next 18 months. The company grew from just 30,000 employees back in 2011.
“We plan to add another 100,000 new Amazonians across the company over the next 18 months as we open new fulfillment centers, and continue to invent in areas like cloud technology, machine learning, and advanced logistics,” said Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder and CEO, in a statement.
The company said it’s already created thousands of jobs and will continue to create more in states like Washington, Texas, California, Illinois, Kentucky, Florida and New Jersey. Amazon will also focus on military hiring. The company already employs 10,000 military veterans, and last year pledged to train an additional 25,000 veterans and military spouses over the next five years.
Amazon does have a presence in Ohio, with a distribution center in central area of state. Back in July, the company announced it was hiring to fill thousands of jobs at its Etna Fulfillment Center. The company also has a brick-and-mortar store near the University of Cincinnati.
In October, the company said it was looking to hire 120,000 seasonal employees for the holiday season.
