Ohio senators applaud trade ruling favoring Whirlpool

WASHINGTON — Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, and Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, applauded a ruling Tuesday by the International Trade Commission which stated that Whirlpool has been harmed by a flood of unfairly traded washing machine imports from China.

The ruling indicated that Samsung and LG washers have been dumped into U.S. markets at unfair prices to the detriment of Whirlpool, which has plants in Ottawa, Findlay, Clyde, Greenville and Marion. Consequently, additional duties will be applied to those imports.

“This decision is a step in the right direction in ensuring that Whirlpool’s workers in Ohio get a fair shake against unfair imports,” Portman said.

“Providing relief from unfair trade practices helps protect jobs and I’ll continue to work with Sen. Portman to root out other unfair trade practices that hurt Ohio workers and manufacturers,” Brown said.
