Fire starts after dog knocks over candle in Lima

LIMA — A dog knocking over a candle apparently started a Tuesday morning house fire at 2018 N. Metcalf St., Lima, according to the Lima Fire Department.

The call came in at 8:38 a.m., and the fire department was on the scene until 9:31 a.m. The two-story structure is valued at $73,500 according to the auditor’s website, and it sustained $10,000 in damage with $20,000 of content damage.

The property is owned by Debora Pseekos and is rented to Andrea Butler. Butler, her teenage son and two dogs were uninjured.

“It appears the renter had a candle burning in the upstairs bedroom, and a dog knocked it over,” Kirkendall said.
