14 Allen County traffic fatalities in 2016

LIMA — While there were no fatal traffic crashes in Allen County in the month of December, there were still six more traffic fatalities in 2016 than the year before, according to Lima-Allen County Safe Community Coalition.

There were 12 fatal crashes in 2016 in Allen County, resulting in 14 fatalities, compared to eight crashes in 2015, leading to eight fatalities. Of those 12 crashes, three involved alcohol and drug use, while six did not. Alcohol or drug use was unknown in the remaining three crashes. Five people were killed while wearing safety belts, while four were not. Three fatalities involved motorcycles, scooters or all-terrain vehicles, and none were wearing helmets. The remaining two fatalities were pedestrians.
