School bus involved in accident near Wapak

WAPAKONETA — Several children were among the people taken to the hospital Thursday when a driver hit a car causing a chain-reaction that led to the car hitting a school bus and children about to board on U.S. 33.

Debra M. Laman, 43, Jordyn M. Laman, 18, and Jonah M. Laman, 16, were taken to St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima. Information on the conditions of the three was unavailable at St. Rita’s.

Two children on the Wapakoneta schools bus were transported to Joint Township District Memorial Hospital to be examined, the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.

The crash happened at 7:22 a.m. on U.S. 33 east of Wapak-Fisher Road involving three vehicles. The school bus, driven by Brenda E. Plescher, was stopped on U.S. 33 facing west with its lights and stop sign activated. Plescher was preparing to pick up children from a home on the south side of the road, the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.

Debra M. Laman, 43, of Wapakoneta, was in the eastbound lane facing north. Jordyn Laman and Jonah Laman were standing to the east side of Debra Laman’s car waiting to get on the school bus, the patrol reported.

Levon M. Tudor, 25, of Waynesfield, was driving east on U.S. 33 and did not slow down for the stopped school bus. Tudor struck Debra Laman’s car forcing her vehicle into the two children near her car and into the school bus, the patrol reported.

The bus had minor damage but the two cars had enough damage to disable both vehicles, the patrol reported.

The incident remains under investigation.
