Health Partners of Western Ohio opens new center in Lima

LIMA — Health Partners of Western Ohio has opened its fourth location in Lima and will now offer opiate treatment for addicts with more complex medical conditions.

Located at 1550 N. Main St., Health Partners’ new facility offers medical, behavioral health, substance abuse, laboratory and social services. It will also feature an in-house pharmacy.

“Our goal is to take care of almost everything you need,” said Health Partners CEO Janis Sunderhaus. “And if you need more, we can coordinate that care with other people.”

The new location joins Health Partners’ other Lima facilities, which include the Quick-Care center, the Dr. Gene Wright Community Health Center and the Spartan Health Center that is housed at Lima Senior High School. It is the 13th Health Partners’ location in Ohio.

Sunderhaus said opening a facility on North Main Street will expand their reach to a new group of patients.

“We just didn’t have anything in the north end of town, so there was a lot of people we haven’t had access to,” she said. “We expect to take on another 4,000 patients at this site.”

While the majority of services Health Partners provides at its new location are offered at the Community Health Center, Sunderhaus said treating patients with opiate addictions is a new endeavor. This service will be offered starting in January.

“We do offer opiate treatment at our Kenton and Bryan community health centers, but this will be new at this site,” she said. “We’ve had people traveling from Lima to Kenton, so we knew we needed to get that service here.”

Sunderhaus acknowledges that several organizations provide substance abuse treatment in Lima, but she said Health Partners will focus on treating a specific type of addict.

“We’re going to focus on those medically complex people like pregnant women and people that have other medical conditions who may be more difficult to treat at other places,” she said. “We will specialize in those patients.”

Sunderhaus said the overall goal of Health Partners’ new facility is to create a “patient-centered medical home” that focuses on treatment and prevention.

“It’s a move to be more holistic,” she said. “We hope to take care of you when you’re sick, but we really hope to take care of you when you are well. We want to do the stuff that’s easy and simple today so we avoid more extensive care down the road.”

Health Partners planned to begin seeing patients at its new location today. It accepts private insurance, Medicaid and Medicare, and will work with individuals who are uninsured. Call 419-405-7540 to schedule an appointment.

The facility is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays.
