Delphos, Auglaize Township look for operating money

DELPHOS — Voters in a pair of Allen County communities will get the chance to maintain their current levels of service if they approve levies Nov. 8, while most voters in Allen County won’t see locally contested races of issues.

Voters in Delphos will consider a 4.05 mill renewal levy. The levy, first approved in 1976 and renewed every five years since, raises $160,320 per year.

The five-year renewal won’t cost taxpayers any more in taxes. If approved, it begins in January, helping fund the city’s general fund.

Voters in Auglaize Township will get another look at a request for funding. In March, they turned down a five-year, 1 mill additional levy to offset state funding losses. This time around, voters will consider a 0.75 mill additional levy for five years to handle current expenses, including road maintenance.

The township trustees held a meeting Wednesday night to explain the need for the levy, which would last five years.

There are numerous liquor issues on the ballot. In Delphos, voters can decide on Bellman’s Party Shop selling spirituous liquor from 11 a.m. to midnight Sundays. In Lima, Main Catering of Lima Limited & Baseball & Patio hopes to sell beer, wine, mixed beverages and spirituous liquor from 10 a.m. to midnight Sundays. Also in Lima, Vino Bellisimo has a request to sell beer, wine and mixed beverages from 11 a.m. to midnight Sundays. In Bluffton, The Grille has a request for Sunday beer, wine and mixed beverages sales, and the Marathon station hopes to sell wine and mixed beverages.

All countywide public officials in Allen County are incumbents and unopposed, including commissioners Jay Begg and Cory Noonan, Prosecutor Juergen Waldick, Clerk of Courts Margie Murphy Miller, Cheriff Sam Crish, Recorder Mona Losh, Treasurer Rachael Gilroy, Engineer Brion Rhodes, Coroner Gary Beasley and judges Matt Staley and Jeffrey Reed.
