Old YWCA building catches fire Friday

LIMA — The Lima Fire Department responded to a fire at the former YWCA building at 649 W. Market at 1:25 p.m. Friday.

Chief Morris Martin said a passerby called in the fire after noticing smoke while driving by. Firefighters were at the scene for about two hours until the fire was extinguished.

Martin said damage was estimated at about $20,000. The building is currently not being used and was vacant. Martin reported that the fire was electrical and started underneath the stairs and behind the wall between the first and second floors of the building.
