VAN WERT — A teenager accused of starting fires in Van West County was found competent to stand trial Wednesday.

After Noah Girod, 18, was examined at the Court Diagnostic center in Toledo, a judge ruled Wednesday he was competent to stand trial.

Judge Martin Burchfield set a pretrial hearing for Friday in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court.

Girod was 17 when he was arrested in April. He was ordered to be tried as an adult.

Girod pleaded not guilty to six counts of aggravated arson, each a first-degree felony, two counts of aggravated arson, each a second-degree felony, and one count of arson, a fourth-degree felony.

The fires were in Hoaglin Township at two properties in a 24-hour period.
