Eric Trump to speak at Allen County GOP rally

LIMA — Trump is coming to Lima. No, it is not Donald, but it is a Trump nonetheless.

Eric Trump will be the keynote speaker at this year’s Allen County Republican Party Barbecue rally, scheduled to begin at 6:15 p.m. Oct. 17 at the UNOH Event Center. The son of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and executive vice president of development and acquisition for the Trump organization, Eric Trump is no stranger to the campaign, speaking at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland as well as participating in both rallies and media interviews since his father’s nomination.

“Eric also founded the Eric Trump foundation, which has contributed millions of dollars to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital,” Allen County Republican Party chairman Keith Cheney said. “He has also been a stalwart on the campaign trail, so we are very excited to see him and certainly hear his message about the campaign. At that point, we will be just a few short weeks away from Election Day.”

Having someone so close to the Republican candidate will give attendees a unique perspective into both the man and his message, according to Cheney.

“Without exception, Eric has traveled throughout the United States and has been one of the rock stars, quite frankly, on the campaign trail,” he said. “I had the opportunity to be with Eric in Columbus a few weeks ago, and I’ll tell you, what a fine young gentleman who believes in his father, not only as his father but also as the next president of the United States. The words he shared with us at that meeting gives an insight into the real Donald Trump coming from his son, and I value that. It will be a very exciting evening here in Allen County.”

While Cheney is excited to have Donald Trump’s son come to Lima, he noted that there has been a great deal of curiosity as to whether or not the candidate himself will be able to come.

“That’s the million dollar question that I get asked every day,” he said. “We have a great relationship with the Trump campaign and have had from day one. We’re certainly on the radar, and as in any campaign, the schedule as well as the campaign will determine if that happens. But absolutely, it’s a possibility.”

Tickets are on sale for $20 at the Allen County GOP Victory Center, 2062 N. Cable Road, by email at [email protected] or by phone at 419-331-5655.
