LIMA — Ohio State University-Lima Career Services Coordinator Rachel Richardson said the Fall Job and Internship Fair held at Cook Hall Gym on campus has a specific goal in mind.
“Our goal is to be the premier place in Northwest Ohio for connecting companies with potential employees,” Richardson said.
The job fair, held in partnership with Rhodes State College, drew 103 employers and about 400 students and other residents looking to find employment. The universities partner up twice a year in the spring and the fall to host the event. The fall fair was held Thursday.
“We open the fair to everyone,” Richardson said. “Students from other colleges are welcome, as well as members of the public. We offer the space for the employers for free because we want to connect people.”
Richardson said the fairs have been successful both connecting people with employers for internships and even full- or part-time employment. She said there have been many connections made.
“We have had students leaving the job fair walking to class and their phone rings to set up an interview,” Richardson said. “There is a girl at this fair that connected with Sherwin-Williams at a job fair last year. She is here now helping them promote the company working in their booth.”
Richardson said they also provide on-site interview rooms so employers can conduct interviews if they meet a good candidate. She said it also encourages students because it is on campus and they are familiar with the location.
Troy Suchland, Crown Equipment Corp., said the event is very beneficial to employers.
“It is nice to meet them face to face rather than receiving a resume or application online,” Suchland said. “You don’t learn everything without meeting the person, and this helps bring all the pieces together.”
Suchland said the company has hired many interns and employees through the job fair. He said there were also a few prospects that showed interest Thursday.
“It is very beneficial,” Suchland said.
“It makes the recruiting process more personal and it is an excellent way to attract talent when you are meeting people face to face,” Richardson said.
