Books-A-Million donates variety of books to Lima schools

LIMA — Several students representing their classmates perused through the more than $1,200 in books donated by Books-A-Million to the Lima City School District through a program the bookseller hosts annually.

Whether readers are looking for thought-provoking books such as “The Righteous Mind” or “The Boy In the Striped Pajamas,” popular children series such as “The Maze Runner” or “Harry Potter,” or cuddly picture books for younger readers, there was something for every type of reader.

“We try to focus on a variety,” said Isaac Nichols with Books-A-Million. “Our goal is to get more people reading.”

During the past year, shoppers at the Books-A-Million location in Lima had the opportunity to purchase a book for the drive. They could donate whatever book they wanted, or the store offered suggestions if shoppers wanted to donate but did not have a title in mind.

Eighth-grader Andrew Zell said the company did a good job donating books that will interest children.

“They are books that people will be interested in,” Andrew said.

Andrew said he likes to spend time reading and the new titles were definitely appealing. He said the “Maze Runner” series will be very popular with the students.

Lima South Principal Chad Fallis said the books will be sorted and distributed out to the various libraries throughout the school district. It was the second year Books-A-Million has hosted the program and donations doubled from more than $600 last year.

“It’s definitely appreciated,” Fallis said. “It is a great effort to get students to read.”
