Allen County GOP gets unexpected delivery

LIMA — An impromtu delivery Monday forced the Allen County Republican Party to quickly assemble a group of volunteers, as thousands of yard signs for the Republican presidential ticket of Donald Trump and Indiana Gov. Mike Pence made their way to the Allen County Republican Victory Center.

“We unloaded two trucks worth of signs today, so at this point in time, we have plenty of yard signs available here in Allen County,” Allen County Republican Party Chairman Keith Cheney said. “We were also the drop point for nine other counties surrounding Allen County to come pick up their signs, so it was a very busy day here at the victory center.”

Because the deliveries were made with little to no advance notice, the party was left scrambling to find volunteers to assemble the myriad signs for pickup, an issue Cheney was grateful to see quickly resolved.

“In a matter of 30 minutes, we had 12 volunteers on the ground ready to help unload the truck,” he said. “They’ve been anxious about getting the signs in and getting them assembled, so they we’ll be able to serve them to the public when they walk in.”

One of the volunteers, Lima attorney Carlene Huston-Kinworthy, was happy to help on short notice, knowing that many local Republican voters were anxious to have signs to place in their yards.

“It was exciting,” she said. “We’ve been waiting three weeks, so it was great to get them in. I don’t want to exaggerate, but I think there were six pages of names and phone numbers of people asking for the signs. That’s exciting for me. People are beginning to understand that in the end, we only have two choices in November.”

Signs are available at the Republican Victory Center, 2062 N. Cable Road.
