Van Wert woman dies in crash on U.S. 224 Thursday

PLEASANT TOWNSHIP — The Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash at 3:10 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of U.S. 224 and Liberty Union Road in Van Wert County.

According to the report, Lloyd Conway, 57, of Charlotte, Michigan, was driving a 2003 GMC Envoy west on U.S. 224 approaching Liberty Union Road when he attempted to make a left turn. The vehicle was struck by a 2005 Honda Accord being driven east on U.S. 224 by William Wise III, 67, of Van Wert.

A passenger in Wise’s vehicle, Alice Wise, 66, of Van Wert, was transported to Van Wert County Hospital by Van Wert EMS, where she was pronounced dead. William Wise III was transported to Van Wert County Hospital by Van Wert EMS, where he was treated and transported to Parkview Regional Medical Center. Conway and a passenger, Anya Stryker-Conway, 26, were treated for minor injuries and released at the scene.

William Wise III, Alice Wise and Lloyd Conway were wearing seatbelts. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. U.S. 224 was closed for about an hour.

Also assisting at the scene were the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio City Fire and EMS and 2A’s Towing and Superior Collision. The incident remains under investigation.
