SPENCERVILLE — Firefighters responded to a duplex fire at 209 N. College St. at 5:35 p.m. Saturday in Spencerville.
Firefighters arrived at the scene to find the duplex on fire. People living in the upstairs of the duplex were able to escape without injury. The people living downstairs were not home at the time of the blaze.
Spencerville Fire Chief said the home encountered heavy water, fire and smoke damage and has been considered a total loss. The Red Cross was contacted to help one of the families find help, and he said the other family will be staying with relatives.
The cause of the fire was undetermined late Saturday. The American Township and Delphos fire departments assisted at the scene.
