Mercer County man arrested after woman reports assault

FORT RECOVERY — Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey announced the office has made an arrest after an assault that occurred at about 10 p.m. Monday.

Nathan Frederick, 25, of 221 Lowry Road, was arrested at his workplace without incident.

The Sheriff’s Office received a call from a mother reporting her 19-year-old daughter had been strangled by her boyfriend. The victim said Frederick had physically restrained her from leaving the residence, pulled her hair and was choking her. The victim said Frederick then retrieved a handgun and held it to his head and threatened to shoot himself and the victim. The firearm was discharged inside the residence.

A search warrant executed at the residence Tuesday turned up a Ruger LCP .380-caliber handgun, one spent round and five live rounds, according to Sheriff’s Office officials. Deputies also recovered suspected marijuana pipes, an electric scale, suspected marijuana residue and a suspected marijuana grinder.

Frederick was being held at the Mercer County Adult Detention Facility. The case was forwarded to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office for review of additional charges.
