Auglaize sheriff warns of scam alert

WAPAKONETA — Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon is warning people to be on alert for a telephone scam hitting the area by someone claiming to be collecting money for fallen police officers after the recent assassination of police officers in several cities.

The caller is asking people to donate to help fallen officers. The callers frequently hang up when questioned about the validity of their organization.

Solomon said there has been a lot of telephone scams recently and advises people the best advice is to not send money to anyone calling asking for donations and to never give out personal information or bank information.

“Hang up is the best advice I can give you,” Solomon said.

If callers continue to call after telling them no and hanging up, Solomon said contact local police officials.
