PUTNAM COUNTY — Your drive through the northern part of the region could have a delay or two over the next 10 weeks.
Windmills, part of the Blue Creek Wind Farm project, will be trucked from Toledo to Paulding, making a winding route to avoid as many obstacles as possible.
International Co., of Portland, Oregon, is the transport company. Clay Eldrage, a company representative, said the windmills were shipped into Toledo and will include 48 truckloads.
The oversize loads will use this route: south on Interstate 75 to U.S. 224 in Findlay; west on U.S. 224 through Ottawa, Kalida and Ottoville; north on U.S. 127 to the Haviland area; west on state Route 114; and north on state Route 49 to the Paulding area.
The trucks wouldn’t fit under I-75 overpasses in this area. As the Ohio Department of Transportation-approved route stands, bucket trucks will be in the towns listed to move and hold traffic lights up as the trucks pass through.
“It is about a 10-week project,” said Ottawa Municipal Director Jack Williams. “There was three loads beginning today, and there will be an average of about five loads a week coming through for a total of 48 loads. There will an additional 48 other loads that will not require moving traffic lights due to height restrictions, but they will still be wide, over-sized loads.”
The trucks will be escorted by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and company vehicles.
Blue Creek Wind Farm started operations in this area in June 2012. The loads will be used to build 48 new windmills in the Paulding area for energy production.
