Crestview Schools approve free and reduced-priced meals for students

CONVOY — Crestview Local Schools approved the program for its 2016-17 free and reduced-priced meals. The Federal Income Eligibility Guidelines will be used for determining eligibility. Children from families whose annual income is at or below the Federal Guidelines are eligible for free and reduced price meals or free milk if the school participates in the Special Milk Program.

Application forms are being distributed to all homes in a letter to parents or guardians. To apply for free and reduced-price benefits, households should fill out the application and return it to the school. Additional copies are available at the principal’s office in each school.

Leipsic youth awarded with scholarship

LEIPSIC — Anna Marie Schmenk, of Leipsic, received the Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation Scholar Award. This award recognizes students for academic effort, community service and career interests that use agriculture to enhance the partnership between producers and consumers in rural, suburban and/or urban settings.

Youth compete for Auglaize County Junior Fair King & Queen

WAPAKONETA — The Auglaize County Fair will be begin July 31, and with that, the crowning of the Auglaize County Fair king and queen takes place.

Four youth are vying for the king coronation and five for the queen coronation.

Competing for the title of Auglaize County Fair king are:

Todd Bertke, of St. Marys. Bertke will be a senior at St. Marys Memorial High School. He was nominated by the 4-H organization. Bertke is involved in FFA, CYO Basketball and FCA. He is the son of Roger and Teresa Bertke, of St. Marys.

Kyle Prenger, of Minster. Prenger will be a senior at Minster High School. He was nominated by the Minster Livestock 4H. He is a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, a third-grade student aide, cross-country and track and field, and eighth-grade girls assistant BB coach, scorebook keeper for girls basketball, an Americanism Test Winner and a volunteer for the 1 Heart 2 Souls Triathlon. He is the son of Dennis and Christa Prenger, of Minster.

Adam Vogel, of St. Marys. Vogel will be a senior at St. Marys Memorial High School. He was nominated by the Noble Harvesters. He is involved with DECA, soccer, wresting, volunteered at St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Recycling Center. He is the son of Jeff Vogel and Ann Vogel, of St. Marys.

Jonathan Vogel, of St. Marys. Vogel will be entering The Ohio State University this fall. He was nominated by his 4H group. He has been a member of 4H, National Honor Society, Buckeye Boys State, Memorial High School Student Council, Auglaize County Junior Fair Board, WBL all academic, Auglaize County 4-H Camp and Memorial High School band. He is the son of Dan and Dorine Vogel, of St. Marys.

Competing for the title of Auglaize County Fair Queen are:

Morgan Felver, of St. Marys. She was nominated by the Noble Harvesters 4-H Club. She will be attending The Ohio State University at Lima this fall. She has been a member of SMABB, Dance Team, FCCLA, FCA, Relay for Life, volleyball, cheer, softball, youth group and mission team with a mission trip taken to El Salvador in 2014. She is the daughter of Brad and Amy Felver, of St. Marys.

Jessica Fisher, of Wapakoneta. She was nominated by Carteens. She will be attending Wright State-Lake Campus in the Fall. Fisher is a member of the psychology club at Wright State University-Lake Campus; is a member of the Women’s Auxiliary at the Buckland Volunteer Fire Department and played soccer at Wapakoneta High School. She is the daughter of Mark and Tina Fisher, of Wapakoneta.

Bethany Heitz, of Wapakoneta. She was nominated by the Wapakoneta FFA. She attends Wright State University. Heitz is the reporter for the Wapakoneta FFA, attended the Washington Leadership Conference with the Wapakoneta FFA, and is student adviser for the Wapakoneta FFA. She was part of the study abroad program at Wright State University, study Panama Canal. Heitz is the daughter of Nicholas and Lisa Heitz, of Wapakoneta.

Amanda Lehmkuhl, of Minster. She was nominated by the Buckeye Beavers 4-H Club. She attends the University of Cincinnati. Heitz has been involved with the National Honor Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters, American Legion Oratorical Contest, Auglaize Mercer YMCA and Minster Municipal Pool, St. Augustine Parish, Youth Leadership Association, Student Council, Hugh O’Brian Leadership Conference sponsored by the Journeyman’s Club, Minster volleyball and band. She is the daughter of Bill Lehmkuhl and Karen Hoban.

Kelly Wilker, of St. Marys. She was nominated by her 4-H organization. She will be a senior at St. Marys Memorial High School. Wilker has been involved with student council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, Holy Rosary Church/Youth Group, cross-country/track, sportsmanship committee and the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership. She is the daughter of Gene and Cindy Wilker, of St. Marys.
