Van Wert sheriff seizes 52 pot plants

VAN WERT — A 30-year-old Ada man was arrested this week after deputies found 52 marijuana plants growing at a home.

David J. Haught Jr. was charged with possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, after deputies executed a search warrant on a suspected marijuana growing operation, Van Wert County Sheriff Thomas Riggenbach said.

Deputies received a tip of a possible grow operation at 14125 state Route 116, Van Wert. Deputies searched the home and found 52 plants with an estimated street value of $52,000, the sheriff said.

Deputies also seized suspected morphine, a small amount of marijuana, scales and grinders, drug paraphernalia and prescription bottles, Riggenbach said.

The sheriff will send a nuisance abatement letter to the property owner to make that person aware of the operation.
