Officials testing truck suspected in St. Marys teen death

ST. MARYS — A person and vehicle of interest have been located in the case of a 14-year-old girl who was hit and killed June 8 near St. Marys, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Sgt. Robert Sellers with the highway patrol said evidence was being processed in an attempt to see if the person or vehicle can be linked to the crime. He said the vehicle in question is currently in possession of the patrol.

“At this point, we cannot provide any more information that might jeopardize the investigation,” Sellers said. “The positive thing is that we had leads to follow up on. These cases usually depend on what people may have heard or seen.”

Emily Rempe was walking in the eastbound lane on County Road 33A near Barrington Road at 10:41 p.m. when she was struck by a pickup, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported. The pickup continued without stopping. The vehicle was described by a witness as a full-size pickup with either a roll bar or tall exhaust smoke stacks in the back.

Sellers said any other witnesses who may have been in the area are encouraged to report anything they may be aware of. Anyone with information on the truck or the driver should call the patrol at 419-738-4324.
