Downtown Lima Inc. to begin alien-themed social media promotion

LIMA — Downtown Lima Inc. is alerting the public of a new social media promotion starting next week that will be out of this world.

In celebration of the release of “Independence Day: Resurgence,” slated for theatrical release Friday, Downtown Lima has created a new “Downtown Lima Invasion” social media campaign, with several downtown businesses to have alien-themed promotions next week.

“We will have aliens invade downtown Lima,” Downtown Lima Inc. Executive Director Aubree Kaye said. “Some of our downtown businesses will have changes to their Facebook pages with some nice graphics in them, and there will be alien-themed food and drinks.”

The Met will have an alien-centric drink promotion during the invasion, with The Meeting Place on Market also participating.

“Our bakers will be making some alien-themed treats all next week,” Meeting Place manager Brett Stover said. “We’ll also have some drink specials next week.”

Another promotion kicking off in downtown Lima is a downtown addition to the Allen County geocaching trail. Enthusiasts of this activity will be able to use global positioning system coordinates to conduct a scavenger hunt and find treasure troves throughout the downtown area.

“If you finish the Allen County route or the downtown loop, you can stop in at the Allen County Convention and Visitors Bureau, and they will have a special trinket for you,” Kaye said.
