Shawnee Firefighters get pet oxygen masks

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Firefighters now have two pet oxygen masks they can use to possibly save the life of a furry friend or family member.

Thanks to a donation from Invisible Fence Brand the Shawnee Township Fire Department has two masks to help pets found in house fires. No official statistic is kept on pets that die in fires but one thing firefighters know is most die from smoke inhalation, Shawnee Fire Department officials reported.

The donated masks is part of a national effort called Project Breathe to provide pet oxygen masks to fire stations across the country.

Invisible Fence Brand has donated more than 12,400 pet oxygen masks to fire stations across the United States and Canada. More than 150 pets have been saved by donated masks including two kittens saved earlier this year in Salt Lake City.
