Highway Patrol investigating ‘person of interest’ in fatal hit-and-run

ST. MARYS — The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s investigation of the hit-and-run death of a 14-year-old St. Marys girl is making progress but still is far from completion.

According to Trooper Eldridge of the OSHP Office of Criminal Investigation in Piqua, investigators now have a “person of interest” but it is still too soon to release information with the investigation still ongoing.

At 10:41 p.m. June 8, Emily Rempe was struck by a pickup truck while she was walking in the eastbound lane of county Road 33A near Barrington Road. The driver did not stop, but instead left the scene. Rempe later succumbed to her injuries after being taken to Joint Township District Memorial Hospital.

No arrests have been made and no charges have been filed.
